Here’s a cocktail I invented last night while trying to find a use for the Amaro CioCiaro I just picked up. If you’re not familiar with it, CioCiaro’s a bittersweet, herbal Italian liqueur. I added it to my collection when I heard it was a good substitute for Amer Picon, an ingredient I’ve run across in a number of interesting recipes. This drink combines it with tequila, lime, Grand Marnier, and some muddled jalapeño. It’s a spicy drink, so if you’re looking for less intensity, just reduce the pepper.
1 1/2 oz. silver tequila (I used Herradura)
3/4 oz. Amaro CioCiaro
1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
3/4 oz. fresh lime juice
4 slices of jalapeño pepper (reduce for less heat)
Muddle the jalapeño in a cocktail shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients and fill the shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime wedge.
